This recipe for no churn cherry chip ice cream is such a huge hit. Next time I may do a double batch so it doesn’t run out so fast!
How much does my family love this ice cream? I made a batch, and my son got home from camp and told me it was the best thing he’d ever eaten.
Granted, he’d been at Boy Scout camp for a week on lean rations in the blistering heat, but that’s still a pretty good compliment, don’t you think?
If you’re anything like me, you are done with this blistering heat wave. I’d hoped that the huge storm we had last night – a giant tree limb almost fell on my car! – would cool things off for awhile, but we’re back to hot and humid.
Ice cream to the rescue!
Rather than run to the store, we often make ice cream ourselves. It’s easy and fun, and who doesn’t love customizing flavors?

Most of the time, I make a traditional ice cream in my ice cream maker. I almost always have the containers in the freezer “just in case” – which makes it easy to whip up ice cream anytime.
Our all time favorite is my salted caramel ice cream, but we’ve done all sorts of fun things with ice cream from avocado ice cream (don’t knock it til you’ve tried it!) and ice cream sandwiches.
I have so many more fun ice cream ideas I want to try from a no churn s’mores ice cream to bourbon and peach ice cream to my favorite flavor anywhere key lime pie ice cream.
Sometimes, I’d rather do a no churn ice cream when I’m running everywhere. It’s a little different taste, but clearly this version had huge fans.
Why make a no churn cherry chip ice cream this time? Well… did you see all the cherries I bought? I got a little excited when I found fresh cherries for $1.69/pound.
I may have overbought just a little. I used some to make my cherry custard, and we ate a ton, but I still needed to use the rest.
Plus, cherry chocolate chip is her favorite ice cream flavor. And her birthday was yesterday (shocking – she only wanted one candle). It was kinda perfect all around!
As hot as it is, you don’t need to set this ice cream out long before you plan to serve it. Even just two to three minutes is more than enough. In winter, you may wish to set it out five to ten minutes before you serve for it to soften.
The longer you keep your no churn cherry chip ice cream in the freezer, the harder it gets. If you eat it a week after you make it, plan to let it soften a little longer than the day or two after you make this recipe.
This ice cream – as with most no churn ice creams – tends to melt quickly once it starts. Keep that in mind before you dish it up!
I bought my husband an ice cream cone maker for his last birthday, and it’s tons of fun to use. If you don’t happen to have a homemade ice cream cone or bowl sitting around, pick up cones from the store to serve them. I love that crunch with my ice cream!

How to Make No Churn Cherry Chip Ice Cream
Start with fresh or frozen cherries. If they’re fresh, pit the cherries first! I love my cherry pitter; it makes the work go so much faster. If you use frozen cherries, verify they’re pitted.
As you pit the cherries, tear them into halves or quarters. Pro tip: This also helps ensure you removed the pit and didn’t miss one.
I pit the cherries directly into the container I’ll use to freeze my ice cream. You can buy a special ice cream container that is the perfect size to hold a batch of ice cream. I love how it’s insulated so keeps my ice cream fresher longer.
These ice cream containers hold 1.5 quarts, the exact amount our favorite ice cream machine makes. They're insulated so they don't thaw as quickly, and they are a perfect shape to easily scoop out your homemade ice cream.
It’s one less dish to get dirty, and the high sides help contain any juice splatters. Just make sure you pull out each pit as you release it.
Once you pitted all your cherries – and sliced frozen ones if you plan to use them – sprinkle brown sugar over the top. For fresh cherries, this helps them release their juices and soften. Frozen cherries will be juicy regardless as they defrost.
In your mixing bowl, add the heavy whipping cream. Use your whisk attachment if you have one. Start your mixer on low and gradually turn it up as the cream whips up. This is what adds structure to your no churn ice cream, so don’t skip this step. Keep beating until stiff peaks form.
While the cream whips, chop your chocolate. I prefer quality dark chocolate block to using chips. Chips aren’t easy to eat in ice cream.
Once your whipped cream has its peaks, add vanilla and sweetened condensed milk and gently fold together. Add cherries and chopped chocolate and gently stir to distribute. I often leave some chocolate bits behind to sprinkle on top to make it pretty, but that’s up to you.
Use a spatula to scrape into your storage container. Sprinkle remaining chocolate on top, secure the lid and freeze for at least four hours.

I love chocolate chip ice cream and I love cherry ice cream and you just put my two favorites in one!! How awesome are you?
Well they’re two of my favorites, too, so… 😉
I’m drooling all over my keyboard. It is so hot outside and I’d love something cold and creamy and your cherry chocolate chip ice cream would fill that craving. You can’t beat the ease or the taste. So yummy — can’t wait to make some.
Keep drooling – just make sure it doesn’t get in the keyboard 😉 This is such an easy recipe.
Oh my gosh you have so many flavors to try! My hubby loves chocolate chip cherry too (Cherry Garcia). I have yet to try a no churn ice cream recipe and every single day I crave ice cream so this recipe will come in handy!
I hadn’t gone the no churn route before either, but I really like this one. Who knew it was so easy?
Homemade ice cream is the BEST. No churn is even better. With the grandkids here 2 days a week all summer long, I am sure I will be making my fair share of ice cream this season.
Oh I bet you’ll be making it with them. How fun that you can bake with them and spend all that time with them?
Cherries and chocolate go so well together, especially in ice cream. I love this, and no-churn ice cream especially! It’s so easy to make. Hope you’re having a happy 4th of July!
They absolutely do. They’re such a perfect pairing – and so easy, yes!
