Peppermint Sugar Scrub Recipe

Peppermint sugar scrub recipeI have fallen so deeply in love with sugar scrubs. Not only is it fast (and relatively inexpensive) to make, but they smell amazing. And they’re the perfect little pampering treat that we can all use.

Making them myself means I know exactly what’s going in there, so I feel good about the ingredients. Every time I open up this jar of peppermint sugar scrub, I feel an instant happiness.

My brown sugar cookie scrub is another favorite, but the peppermint in this one is so incredibly refreshing that I find myself going back to this one over and over again.

I use peppermint extract because it’s what I have on hand in my house. If you’re an essential oils person, I would use that instead – and use just 8-10 drops to start for this recipe. Oils are powerful!

And this peppermint sugar scrub recipe is just a base idea. You could so easily create a lemon sugar scrub or orange, if you’re into citrus.

A green tea sugar scrub would be amazing, using the tea leaves from inside your green tea bag from your pantry in place of the peppermint. Use lavender or any of your favorite scents to make your sugar scrub your own.

Regardless of what you use to create your sugar scrub, the key is to ensure that you have a ratio of about 2 parts sugar to one part oil. This recipe makes enough to fill the adorable glass jars I picked up to store my scrubs.

And those glass jars are another important piece. Make sure whatever you use to store your peppermint sugar scrub creates a tight seal to prevent your oils or other scents from evaporating. You want to enjoy them!

I like to use glass because it doesn’t absorb scents, which means I can reuse them again and again with different scrubs without worrying that the one I just made will get “corrupted” by the one I made last time.

How to Make Peppermint Sugar Scrub

I feel almost silly calling this a recipe, but there are ingredients and a recipe. You sort of have to know what you’re doing. A little anyway.

Get your ingredients together. Remember to use a two to one ratio of sugar to oil.

I like to use olive oil, but you could also use grapeseed oil, fractionated coconut oil, or other quality oils. If you’re using an extract, you’ll want to use more than you will if you’re using essential oils because of the relative strength of the two.

For the quantity I make, I’ll use a little over a teaspoon of extract, maybe 2 if I feel like I want something more intense. If I use peppermint oil, I use just 8-10 drops in the peppermint sugar scrub.

Peppermint sugar scrub ingredients

In a bowl, add your sugar and oil and mix until thoroughly combined. Again, use a glass or metal bowl that won’t absorb – or give off – scents.

Once it’s mixed, go ahead and add your extract or essential oil. Stir again to get the scent mixed throughout.

This is where I finish. You could add food coloring to give it a look to match the scent. Personally, I tend to avoid dyes in general. For this, a light minty green would be beautiful.

If I made this as a gift closer to Christmas, how fun would it be to dye half of it red? Just layer is with the white to make a candy cane looking peppermint sugar scrub!

Spoon it into your container, and close it up until you’re ready to use it. I love storing mine near my bath with a small spoon. I just reach in and scoop out a bit to scrub any rough areas and enjoy the refreshing scent of that peppermint sugar scrub.
