This weekend has been insane. Usually my weekends let me recharge and relax at least a little for the upcoming week.
This weekend, I started Thursday and never stopped. I chaperoned kids until midnight Friday and Saturday nights. I went to a theme park, Girl Scout camp, corn maze, lacrosse games, a baby shower, and more.
Of course by the time Sunday night rolled around, I realized I had nothing for dinner or my kids’ lunches today. Since I’m a good mom (stop laughing), I did a quick run out to the store to pick up a few essentials.
This trip’s essentials included coffee and creamer. You get why, right?
To say I needed a little pick me up this morning may be the understatement of the week.
Thankfully, I have an arsenal of coffee recipes I love that don’t take much time to whip up. Days like today, I want my caffeine to be something special, and this spicy cinnamon mocha fits the bill.
Much as I love a pumpkin coffee in the fall with my homemade pumpkin spice creamer, today called for chocolate.
With the cooler temperatures, I put away my blender and don’t focus on frappes. Nope, now I’m all about fall pairings and flavors.

The mild heat from the spicy part of my spicy cinnamon mocha gives my coffee a little extra oomph as it warms me up from the inside.
This coffee drink is easy to make and takes just a few minutes. I can prep the flavorings and creamer while my coffee brews, so it really adds no extra time to my day.
My big secret? Add the cinnamon to the coffee grounds before you brew.
The hot water helps release the oils in the cinnamon and creates a consistently smooth and delicious cup of high-quality coffee. The smell of this alone starts to boost my mood.
Cheers to the extra goodness I needed and wanted with this spicy cinnamon mocha. Let’s just say this is indulgence done right.
I only wish I’d picked these up before I headed to our lacrosse doubleheader so I could sip on a spicy cinnamon mocha while trying to stay warm in the driving rain and temps that dropped 20 degrees while we were there. Come to think of it, I could have used one once we got home, too!
How to Make a Spicy Cinnamon Mocha
Add your coffee grounds to your coffeemaker. Sprinkle cinnamon over the grounds, then brew as normal.
While coffee brews, add your half and half to a saucepan. Turn the heat to medium low, and add cocoa powder and cayenne pepper.
Stir until it dissolves. Let this heat while coffee brews, making sure the half and half doesn’t boil. Once it steams, remove from the heat and stir in vanilla.
Pour half and half mixture into coffee cups, then pour cinnamon coffee over it.
Top with whipped cream and a shake of cinnamon. Garnish with cinnamon sticks, if desired.
This is the kind of great cup of coffee to transform your day, especially these suddenly cold and grey fall days where you want to warm up from the inside out.
Are you a visual person? Check out the quick how to video. It’s really as easy as brew, heat, and mix!
Have you ever tried a spicy cinnamon mocha?
If you’re one of those living where it’s still beastly hot out, use the coffee and half and half to make this java chip frappuccino instead.
Need flavor fast? Use my espresso hot fudge sauce mixed with the coffee and half and half for a super fast, delicious treat.

I wish I had some regular coffee in the house — I guess I’ll have to settle for herb tea. I’m putting the ingredients on my grocery list so I can make this ASAP!! I really need a pick-me-up!!
Definitely add it to your shopping list. This is one of my favorite at home coffee recipes!
This would be perfect on cold days.. I love that you added cayenne.. I love the flavor of cinnamon and coffee so the cayenne would just take it up a noch.. yum!
I am tired and I want something sweet and this looks absolutely perfect!!!! I love Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and that you put cinnamon in it.
Well doesn’t this sound delicious. Perfect for chilly nights…and YES I am done with winter too. Let’s hope spring actually is around the corner….but I would drink this all year long.
It would be great for chilly nights. I think I need to make an iced version of this for when summer comes – I love these flavors.
Oh yum! This was a delightful end to a meal!
This would be a great end to a meal – I haven’t tried it that way yet!
Couldn’t find the buttercream half and half, so I got International Delight Sweet cream and I’m skipping the cayenne due to stomach issues. Making it tonight as desssert!
I hope you enjoy it! It’s good with and without the cayenne. I’ve made it both ways, but I love a little kick to it. Enjoy your dessert!
