Every year, I gift my husband coffee, sometimes for Christmas, sometimes for our anniversary, sometimes for his birthday. No matter when he gets it, he is happy to have something other than the boring grocery store coffee he buys for himself most of the time.

I’m BEYOND excited for the Death Wish Coffee I gave him this year (early – I couldn’t resist), and he is a total convert to this high caffeine coffee brand. (Technically, there are “stronger” coffees out there, but this one has a real kick to it.)
Death Wish Coffee uses arabica and robusta beans for a bold and smooth flavor, and bonus: their coffee is a high caffeine coffee thanks to the robusta beans. And yes, all the beans are fair trade and organically sourced, which makes me feel good about drinking it, too.
We are hooked, and next up is cementing the relationship with a Death Wish Coffee mug.
Their mugs have as much personality as their coffees, and that’s what has stopped me so far. How do I choose which one? Their 2023 Death Wish Coffee mug is out, however, and I might have to go with that limited edition version.

What does it taste like?
This coffee is smooth and strong. Those are the best words I can use to describe it.
I received three bags of coffee to try: the dark roast, medium roast, and espresso roast.

Long ago, I learned that if I drink quality coffee, I enjoy it without all the fluff to make it a coffee flavored dessert. Death Wish Coffee fits the bill with all three varieties I tried.
Zero bitterness in any of the coffee blends – and that’s usually what I’m trying to cover up.
This is coffee I can enjoy with just a bit of cream for extra richness, and each variety tastes slightly different and has a different kick to it. At this point, I think about my day and choose the strength I need based on my to do list.

The medium roast coffee has hints of caramel and roasted peanuts, notes of stone fruit and smooth milk chocolate to finish. I may not be able to pick up on all of those myself, but once I know they’re there, I definitely feel them.
The dark roast is a bolder coffee with notes of dark chocolate and black cherry. This one might be my favorite, but it’s like choosing a favorite child.
The espresso roast is the strongest coffee and the one my husband turns to every morning. He loves his coffee strong, and this is it exactly.
No joke: he actually had to return a fancy coffee machine I bought him one year because it didn’t brew the coffee strong enough for him. Thankfully, I had not yet gotten rid of the old coffeemaker, so it’s still going strong brewing coffee that will put hair on your chest!
This blend has notes of caramelized sugar, cocoa, and black cherry. One thing to be aware of here: although it’s an espresso roast, the grounds are designed for regular drip coffee makers.
Just gonna say that every one of these coffees works for me in the morning. Pair this with a pumpkin muffin, and I’m in heaven.

Why two kinds of coffee beans?
The different beans lend different qualities to the coffee, but they both help make a consistent cup of coffee that is exactly what you want to drink each morning (or afternoon or evening or…).
The Dark and Medium roast coffees both use a blend of arabica beans and robusta beans. You’ve probably heard of arabica coffee before, as that is the bean so many tout as allowing for a smooth tasting cup of coffee.
The robusta bean is one that is less common, but this is the one that has twice the caffeine content of arabica beans. It’s also more hardy to grow and handle, so with climate change making the delicate growing conditions of arabica beans more difficult, you’ll likely see more robusta beans on the shelves.
In fact, the New York Times trend forecasters predicted that robusta beans would be one of the top food and beverage trends to take off in 2022. So get on it before everyone else knows all about this!
Again: this is high caffeine coffee. You may not need to drink multiple cups, as they state this is the strongest coffee in the world.
Where can I buy Death Wish Coffee?
You can find Death Wish Coffee in many retail stores, but I prefer to order it online.
Why? The stores often carry just one variety or one style, typically the medium roast. I want to get exactly what I want – especially since my husband really wants the espresso roast, and no stores near me carry it.
The online store offers every variety they sell, with most available in both ground and whole bean coffee. Many are also available in pods for the Keurig style coffee lovers out there.
Plus, when I find a variety I really like, I can stock up on it because the online store offers most styles in a variety of styles from a single bag to five pound bags (the exact sizes vary by blend). Just make sure you store your “excess” coffee properly to ensure it stays fresh until the day you drink it.
You can even subscribe to your favorites so it arrives without you having to remember to order it, every 30, 60, or 90 days.
Oh yeah, and the biggest reason? You can save 10% sitewide with code DWCAFF10 on every order through 1/9/2024.
What other flavors of coffee can I order?
While I had the joy of trying out the dark roast, medium roast, and espresso roast, Death Wish Coffee also offers a ton of other flavors and options. I love that even their flavored options are made with no artificial ingredients, unlike many others on the market.
Their holiday dessert bundle offers Gingerdead (cinnamon and ginger), Pumpkin Chai, and Blue and Buried (blueberry and vanilla). You can purchase each of the flavors separately, as well.
Dark Spirits is a limited edition barrel-aged chocolate rum ball infused coffee, while Valhalla Java Odinforce blend focuses on being the strongest and boldest “enough to wake the dead.”
Have I mentioned that I love the names they give their coffee blends?
These come in whole beans or ground coffee and sometimes both, and most are also available in pods. There’s so much more choice than what you find in retail stores.
How do the coffee subscriptions work?
When you decide to purchase a coffee subscription, you choose what coffee blend you want to order: Dark Roast, Espresso Roast, Dark Roast Death Cups, or Medium Roast.
Choose what size you want – anywhere from one pound to five pounds – and whether you want to receive whole beans or ground coffee. Obviously Death Cups are always cups.
Then choose how often you want to receive your coffee, either every 30, 60, or 90 days, and you save 10% on your orders AND get free shipping.
When you subscribe, you also get early access to new release coffees, which is an extra fun benefit.
And yes, you can pause your subscription or cancel at any time if you realize you somehow have an overabundance of coffee on hand.
Tell me giving someone a subscription of coffee for a gift wouldn’t be a brilliant idea. I know my husband would love it!
Is Death Wish Coffee allergy friendly?
Yes, it is! All the Death Wish Coffee is produced in facilities that are gluten free and nut free. And of course, there is no gluten or nuts in any of their coffees.
Which Death Wish Coffee will you choose?
