Stuffing a stocking

When my kids were little, the got stockings, and my husband and I did stockings for each other. Our tradition is that the kids run downstairs and grab stockings, and we open them together in my bed, snuggled up all warm and cozy.

Last year, my kids still got stockings, and so did my husband. My stocking was empty.

It was surprisingly disappointing to not have a stocking, but my husband said it was partly because he didn’t know what to put in it. Needless to say, I have ideas for him – and for you – and it won’t be empty this year!

Some things are just easy to put in a stocking. Growing up, chocolate and oranges were a tradition. Every year, I pick up navel oranges from the grocery store and add one or two to each stocking.

I then juice the oranges and make fresh orange juice that I serve with sparkling juice mimosas for kids and real mimosas for the adults. It’s an extra bit of fun.

More fun? Get a mini bottle of champagne, and add it to the stocking. Who doesn’t love a personal bottle?
