What is the Fetch app? It’s a free app that turns your receipts into points you can trade for gift cards from places like Amazon and Starbucks. I’ve used it since May 2020, and I’ve earned more than 700,000 points and redeemed $525 in gift cards so far, with plenty more points banked.
It takes a little effort, but not much. I put my receipts in a pile, scan them once a week, and check the app for bonuses on things I already buy.
How the Fetch App Works
Fetch is free on iPhone and Android, and it’s available only in the US. You snap a photo of a receipt, and Fetch awards points based on where you shopped and what you bought.
It used to be all about groceries, but now you can scan almost any receipt, from fast food to the hardware store. Fetch doesn’t care whether you’re a loyal Kroger shopper or a Costco regular, so you don’t have to change stores to earn.
Paper receipts are just the start. You can also earn on online orders, through a browser extension, with mobile games, and with the Fetch credit card, and I walk through each one below.
Why Fetch Is Worth It for Me (and Who It Isn’t For)
Fetch is worth it if you get receipts and you’ll remember to open the app. I put all my receipts in a pile and go through them once a week, and that routine means I don’t miss many points.
I also check the app for bonuses on products I buy and stock up while those bonuses last. If you buy the name brands that carry bonuses, your points add up quickly.
I buy a lot of store brands, so I earn fewer bonuses than some people. Sometimes the points on a name brand are worth more than the price difference, though, and then I’ll make the switch.
If you toss your receipt as you leave the store and won’t remember to open the app, you won’t get much from Fetch. For me, the few minutes a week are well worth the gift cards.
How to Sign Up for Fetch With Referral Code BAAQD
Download Fetch from the App Store or Google Play, or tap my Fetch link to go straight to the app. Open it and create your account with your phone number.
When Fetch asks whether you have a referral code, enter BAAQD. If you came in through my link, it may fill in the code for you.
Skipped that screen? You can still add it. Tap your account tab, choose Refer a friend, and enter BAAQD there before you scan anything, because the code field disappears once Fetch processes your first receipt.

How to Scan Receipts With Fetch
Tap the orange camera button at the bottom of the screen. Lay your receipt flat in good light, with no folds covering the store name, date, total, or items.
Line it up in the frame and snap it. Green checkmarks on store, date, and total mean you’re good to submit. If something’s missing, retake the photo or submit it and fill in the details by hand, and Fetch verifies them later.
You have 14 days from the receipt date, so a weekly habit keeps you well within the window. I scan my receipt pile every week, and I rarely lose one.

Brands pay Fetch to feature offers, and those offers rotate regularly. Check the offers on the home screen before you shop, and you might switch mayonnaise or orange juice brands because one comes with a big bonus.

How to Connect eReceipts on Fetch
Fetch works for online orders, too. You can connect Amazon, Walmart, Instacart, and Sam’s Club directly, and linking your email picks up eReceipts from over 200 other retailers and restaurants.
To set it up, go to your account tab, tap eReceipts, and follow the prompts for each account. Fetch finds your eligible orders, but you still need to submit them, so tap the orange camera button, then the blue eReceipt button.
eReceipts follow the same 14-day window as paper receipts, and you’ll get an error message if you try to submit one after that. I run the eReceipt scan every time I finish my paper receipts, so nothing ages out.
How to Use the Fetch Browser Extension
The Fetch extension earns you points when you shop online at partner retailers. Right now it works on Chrome on a computer and on Safari on a phone.
On Chrome, add the extension, then scan the QR code it shows with your phone to link it to your Fetch account. After that, a popup appears whenever you visit a partner retailer, which shows how many points you can earn and lets you activate Fetch Shop points without leaving the page, so the points land automatically when you check out.
On Safari, install it from web-extension.fetch.com and open Manage Extensions. Tap Always Allow, then Always Allow on Every Website, link your account when it asks, and shop at participating retailers to earn.
How to Earn Fetch Points Playing Games
Fetch Play pays points for the achievements you make in partner games, up to a cap for each game. You download the games as separate apps from the links in Fetch, and most offers count only if you’re new to that game.
The lineup changes, so check the Play tab to see what’s there now. If you already play mobile games, the points add up quickly.
There are often bonuses there, too. Sometimes it’s double points, and other times you get 1,000 bonus points every week for four weeks each time you complete the assigned number of game achievements.
Check the app often, as it shows the current bonuses. Fetch definitely has incentives to play games and at least pass the first few levels to get those points.
How the Fetch Credit Card Works
Fetch also has its own American Express card with a $0 annual fee. It earns 10 points per dollar on grocery and retail purchases and five points per dollar on everything else.
Every purchase also gets you a bonus Spin & Win in the app, worth up to 1,200 points per spin. My spins usually land at 25 points, sometimes 15, and once I got 500.
Since 1,000 points is worth a little less than $1, 10 points per dollar works out to a little under 1% back on groceries. Check the current rates and terms on Fetch’s card page before you apply.
How to Redeem Fetch Points for Gift Cards
Tap the Rewards tab and browse by category, or search for a specific store. If you have enough points for a card, its value appears circled in orange, and if you’re short on points, it stays gray.
You need at least 3,000 points for most rewards. Your first redemption must be a $10, $25, or $50 card. After that, $3 and $5 cards open up, but they cost more points per dollar, so I save up until I have enough for $50 gift cards.
Tap the value you want, then tap Get My Reward, and confirm. Most rewards are electronic and land in My Rewards, though some take up to three days to process for security.
I mostly redeem for places I already shop, like Amazon, or treats like Starbucks and Chipotle. Each retailer sets its own point price, so two $25 cards won’t always cost the same number of points.
Is the Fetch App Legit?
Yes. Fetch is a real company founded in Madison, Wisconsin, and it makes its money when brands pay to feature offers in the app. You sign up with a phone number, and you never need a credit card.
The trade-off is your shopping data. Fetch uses your receipts to show brands what people buy and when, which is how the points stay free.
Is the Fetch App Free?
Yes, the app is free to download and free to use. You never pay to scan receipts or redeem points, and the card is the only part of Fetch that involves a separate application.
How Much Are Fetch Points Worth?
A thousand points are worth a little less than a dollar. Most $50 gift cards cost between 50,750 and 55,000 points, depending on the merchant.
Adidas is 50,750 points, and Amazon is 55,000, while Barnes & Noble is only 50,000. My daughter’s favorite request is Dunkin’, at 54,000 points for a $50 card, so compare a few stores before you redeem.
How Old Can Receipts Be for Fetch?
Fetch takes receipts up to 14 days old, counted from the date printed on the receipt. eReceipts from online orders follow the same 14 days, and the app shows an error if you try to submit anything older.
You can snap up to 35 receipts in any seven-day stretch, which is more than most of us buy. Scanning once a week keeps you safe on both limits.
Can You Add a Fetch Referral Code After Signing Up?
Yes, as long as you haven’t snapped a receipt yet. Tap Refer a friend in your account tab and enter code BAAQD to get your 2,000 bonus points. Once Fetch processes your first receipt, you can’t add a code anymore.
Do Fetch Points Expire?
Your points expire only if your account sits idle for 90 days with no receipts scanned and no rewards redeemed. Fetch emails and texts you before that happens, and one scanned receipt keeps everything active.
Can You Scan Any Receipt on Fetch?
You can scan almost any purchase receipt. Fetch won’t take return receipts, utility or medical bills, prescription refill slips, event or airline tickets, or ATM slips.
Can You Use Fetch With Other Cash-Back Apps?
Yes, and I do. Use your store loyalty program at checkout, then scan the same receipt in Fetch, and keep using apps like Rakuten and Upside on the same trips.
